Amigo (2011)

Rafael is a village mayor caught in the murderous crossfire of the Philippine-American War. When U.S. troops occupy his village, Rafael comes under pressure from a tough-as-nails officer to help the Americans in their hunt for Filipino guerilla fighters. But Rafael's brother is the head of the local guerillas, and considers anyone who cooperates with the Americans to be a traitor. Rafael quickly finds himself forced to make the impossible, potentially deadly decisions faced by ordinary civilians in an occupied country.

Good intentions can't breathe fresh life into cliches or dispel the overall impression of schematic didacticism.

John Sayles Rocks! One of the few writer/directors who not only tell a great story, but manages to create a dramatic friction because everyone's worldview is valid for them but is in conflict with the other character's: "Lone Star", for example. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

A portrait of American imperialism set in an occupied village during the 1900 Philippine-American War.

A reflection on power and betrayal, on the thin line between acting as your conscience demands and protecting obligations close to your heart.

Not many battles but good character exploration surrounding the war between the Philippines and the U.S. 1899-1902.
