Should have been titled "American Remake of the 2004 Italian Film 'I'm Not Scared.'" This film makes some changes to the concept, but unfortunately the movie suffers for them. While the film is right to focus on Gitty's coming-of-age experience instead of the minute details of the situation, it leaves too many loose ends, and takes too many unsatisfying turns, to meet the standard of its obvious inspiration.

Are there supernatural forces at work here? Who knows, and it's impossible to reconcile the plot without answering that question. It's enjoyable while the film is setting up the questions even though it doesn't bother to answer them, and Peyton Kennedy is outstanding.

The filmmaking is gorgeous and unsettling, giving the Midwest of the early 1980s a Gothic feel. The acting is hit or miss — two performances stand head and shoulders above the rest — but it’s the story that never quite gels.

Man I do not know why the critic score is so high for this movie. The only way I made it through was to see if any thing would actually happen, count the times the name "Gitty" was said, or just complain about what was happening.
