lively discussion between muhammad ali and cus d'amato debating ali's contention that he could have whooped any of the heavy weigh champs that preceded him. Amazing archival footage accompanied that is more than enhanced by brilliant musical score by teo macero, a longtime collaborator with miles davis. Lively and animated with strange and compelling narration. the narrator is often on camera sitting in a chair and speaking directly into the camera. The voice reminds me of high school movies about drunk driving. clinical with strong, fear inducing adjectives. great touch.

This is an excellent documentary that covers not only the personal and professional life of one of the greatest athletes and public figures of the century, but also puts a spotlight our society and culture as it relates to being black in America. Ali "is the greatest of all time", and showed tremendous courage, insight and sharp intellect. He far surpassed so many who tried to interview him. Well ahead of his time, and paved the way for many.....

This documentary about Muhammad Ali was made after Ali refused to go to Vietnam, so it gives a very interesting look into the effect ali had on America and the world as it was happening. The documentary has age to it, but i feel like it gives it alot more character to it then taking away from it. i loved ali's arguments with his trainer about whether or not he could beat Joe Louis in his prime or not. There are several interviews with the man himself that are shown and it gives an interesting peak into who Cassius clay is and was. Quite a braggart, but he was always right about his opponents. He never said a single thing he couldn't show for inside the ring, which angered many fans of boxing at the time, while also winning the hearts early on. Overall, it's a good introduction to Muhammad Ali for newcomers and a deeper look into the years when the world didn't know for sure if Ali would ever be boxing again after the Vietnam War incident.

Fascinating chronicle of Muhammad Ali's explosion into boxing and politics in the mid-1960's. Jim Jacobs' documentary is unique for its production during the great champ's exile from the ring as well as being the first of numerous Ali movies over the years (not to mention countless TV documentaries).
