The discussions -- and lingering sexual tensions -- are all rather familiar, but then About Alex isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, instead it simply makes the most of Zwick's gently witty script.

There's nothing new under the sun, but About Alex is very, very not new. Luckily, most of its capable cast muster the warmth we require, and Zwick's script offers more humor (however mild the laughs are) than sentimentality.

a movie that has good actors and great potential, but falls short of the big picture. it's what happens when adult life becomes reality, that whole story could have been told better
