In the wake of a career-ending scandal, disgraced lawyer Lawson Russell moves to Key West, where he befriends aging novelist Christopher Marlowe. After letting Russell borrow his latest manuscript, Marlowe dies of a heart attack. When Russell publishes the dead man's manuscript under his own name, he makes the best-seller list—and unwittingly becomes the prime suspect in the investigation of a grisly multiple homicide.

This should be in your DVD collection. It's a fantastic movie that is part cult film, part dirty little secret. Cuba gives a stellar performance. The writing is superb and has great twists throughout. The story is compelling and still holds water almost ten years later.

Clifford Dubose: You're going downtown! Lawson Russell: On what charge? Clifford Dubose: Arrogance. Okay lemme tell ya one thing. This is my Husbands all time fav Movie aswell myself I m a Huge fan of this Movie. I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE. Every Ape would look "good" in hugo boss but no one would look so AWESOME in HUGO BOSS like Cuba Gooding Jr DOES. ;) I loved Mark Pellegrinos in this Movie and aaw Tom Berenger.

This is probably a movie not a lot of people have seen but it is an excellent one. Very suspenseful. I rented it the first time I saw it, then I got it on DVD.

A disbarred lawyer tries to start writing, but he struggles until meeting a strange ol man who just so happens to have a transcript of a book he is writing. When Gooding tries to find him, he finds out he passed away. So he ends up stealing the book to critical acclaim. However, he starts to get in trouble when the cops get word of his book and find out it describes murders in detail. He ends up escaping the police and is able to elude them to solve the mystery on his own. My biggest problem was the *twist* was so obvious from the get go of the strange man being bot the killer and the detective investigating his death. I just needed to fill in the blanks. The acting is terrible, like made for tv bad. I laughed out loud a few times at things that shouldn't have been funny. It wasn't too bad, it was somewhat interesting, but Gooding being able to elude the cops for so long made no sense. Neither did why the killer would essentially confess. Not to mention, how did Gooding not have an alibi for any of the murders? Could have been better, but ends up disappointing
