sobering. even if death is a respite, it's also a reflection of your life. i wouldn't ever want to be that anonymous or that alone.

"A Certain Kind of Death" works best when it lets the images do the talking, which unfortunately doesn't happen until the final third of the movie. That's not to say the rest of the film doesn't work, it's just not as good, in my opinion. This film is thought provoking and makes me appreciate my family a bit more.

While some of the scenes are likely distasteful to many people, this movie really impressed upon me the scores of government employees whose jobs are to take care of the final details of peoples' lives, from making sure that assets are passed on appropriately (which can involve Sherlock Holmes-like investigation), to physically interring peoples' remains. The complex system which manages these details is truly impressive, and I have respect for those who work in what I am sure is a relatively thankless field.

Please, please, please have someone lined up to settle your affairs when you go. I am not nostalgic about death; I just hate the idea of the state getting my 'estate'. If you have no family, you can leave your estate to friends or a charity.
