The portraits could have done with a little more intimacy and drama, but the richly ambient score and sound design, over brooding shots of London's tower blocks, knit it hypnotically together, and the photography's splendid.

Stevie Martin 23 May 2012

If this were a 100 metre sprint, it'd go off with a bang, start ambling by the 50 metre mark, before finishing in near the back of the pack.

Alex Zane 23 May 2012

At best this is strictly bronze medal material.

Cath Clarke 21 May 2012

Sprinting looks like a brutal business: runners pushing themselves to the limits of pain and endurance, day in day out, year in year out - only to win or lose by hundredths of a second.

Steve Rose 23 May 2012

Until the Olympics happen, the final chapters to these athletes' stories is missing. So we get the pain, but little of the gain.
